Galilea offers a wide variety of trips and local activities that will enhance your studies. By participating in activities you will gain a better understanding of the Spanish culture, cement friendships with fellow students, as well as meet new friends. Galilea is open to all suggestions from students for additional activities. All itineraries are samples and subject to change.

WELCOME PARTY!

Galilea hosts a welcome party for all program students. There will be typical Spanish beverages and Granada tapas, as well as a chance to meet and socialize with Spanish students. This initial evening will introduce you to two Granada neighbourhoods; Plaza Nueva and Sacromonte!
Apart from the tours offered to you by Galilea, Granada enjoys a wealth of interesting places to visit and things to do.
The Welcome Party is included in the price of every program- Standard, Intensive and D.E.L.E. preparation course.

 

 

Tapas on FridaysSpanish tapas

To relax after a long week of work, on Fridays we go out for “tapas”- to have some “cañitas” drinks and talk for a while. It is a great way to learn about the gastronomy, people and places in Granada.

Trips are repeated once every two months. All day trips include morning bus departure from Granada and evening return to Granada.

 

Day Trip to SevillaTorre Del Oro - Sevilla

This day trip will include a guided tour of the city including visits to the Cathedral, its bell tower, La Giralda, the María Luisa park, the Plaza de España, Barrio Santa Cruz and the Torre del Oro. There will be free time in the afternoon to visit La Isla Cartuja and El Parque Temático de Isla Mágica.

Day Trip to Cordoba

Mezquita - CórdobaUpon arrival in Cordoba, the city of the Caliphs, the group will meet a local guide for a tour of the city. The tour will include the best of the city: La Mezquita (The Cathedral of Cordoba), El Barrio Judío, or the Jewish quarter, and the Medina Azahara. The trip will continue along the route of the Caliphs, stopping at the following locations: Espejo, Castro del Río, and Baena.



Alhambra – Generalife Gardens visit

Generalife GardensTransportation will be provided to the Alhambra complex. A guided visit will include the Nasarid palaces, the Alcazaba Granadina and the Gardens of the Generalife (the summer residence of the Nasarid kings).

 

Albaizyn gipsy quarter visit

Albaizyn streetsGranada is famous for the Alhambra, but actually, that is not the oldest part of the city! Granada was initially settled at the mouth of the River Darro, in front of the hill below the Alhambra in a neighbourhood known today as the Albaizyn.

This part of the city is a labyrinth of hidden plazas, small streets and mosques that have been converted into churches. This guided visit will include the Mirador de San Nicolas, to view the gorgeous city at sunset. The group will visit typical Carmen (small villas) and the narrow stone-paved streets in the Albaizyn, as well as the famous teterías- Arabic tea houses- to enjoy typical Arab desserts and traditional teas.

 

Ronda bridgeDay trip to Ronda

The guided tour of one of the oldest cities in Spain will include a visit to the Tajo, or gorge, as well as the Plaza de Toros and bullfighting museum.

 

TopWeekend in the Alpujarras mountains

Alpujarra typical villageAn early Saturday departure from Granada will take you through Lanjarón, a village famous for its mineral-medicinal springwater. You will also pass Orgiva, capital town of the Alpujarra mountain range.

 

Other visits to the famous “white villages” include Caratauna, Pampaniera, Pitres, Pórtugos (with a visit to it´s famous Fuente Agria, a naturally carbonated spring), and Trevelez (the highest village in Spain.) The visit will continue on to Bubión or Capileira for a typical “Alpujarreño” lunch. You will stay overnight in a hotel near Capileira (breakfast is included).

On Sunday, after having breakfast in the hotel, you will have a free day to visit more villages or to take the opportunity to go horseback riding through the mountains.
The Alpujarras is known for its rugs, wines, cheeses and hiking trails.

 

Weekend in the tropical beaches of Costa del Sol

This overnight visit includes a bus trip to one of a number of beaches along the Costa del Sol. This region of Spain rightly gets its name from the more than 300 days of sunshine it has a year. Program participants will stay in a hotel and have a two free days to enjoy the magnificent beaches in the region. breakfast and lunch are included. The return trip to Granada will be on Sunday afternoon.

Weekend in Toledo - MadridTop

ToledoThis visit begins with an early Saturday departure from Granada to Toledo to visit this historic city on the banks of the Tajo (Tagus) River.Toledo was the site of the courts of many former Spanish kings and queens. Many artists and philosophers were attracted to Toledo and made it their home, including El Greco.The tour of the city will include a detailed visit of the Cathedral, now declared a National Monument. Lunch will be provided and the visit will continue to Madrid where overnight accommodation will be provided.

Sunday in Madrid, the capital city of Spain and highest capital in Europe, the tour will include a visit to the Museo del Prado to see works by master Spanish painters. The tour also includes stops at the Palacio Real, the Parque de Buen Retiro, and Viejo Madrid, the city´s oldest neighbourhood, includes the famous Plaza Mayor. Dinner will be provided on the return trip to Granada in the evening.

 

Weekend in Gibraltar – Mijas

Mijas HarbourA Saturday morning departure by coach will take you to Gibraltar. We will visit the “peñón”(the rock) and the town of Gibraltar . Students will have lunch here and continue traveling to Mijas, a local coastal town. Overnight accommodation and dinner will be provided. The following day students have a free day to visit the city and enjoy the gorgeous beach. The return trip is via Antequera to visit to the Natural Park, El Torcal de Antequera.

 


Weekend in Lisbon (Portugal)

Lisbon (Portugal)Beginning with an early morning departure on Saturday, this trip includes a guided tour of Lisbon, as well as some surrounding attractions such as: Monasterio de los Jerónimos, the Torre de Belem, the Monumento de los Descubridores, the Plaza de Rosio (the heart of the city). Students will have free time in the afternoon to visit el Barrio de Alfama. Dinner and lodging are included.

On Sunday, the tour will see sites on the Portuguese coast including the small towns of Sintra, (the summer residence of Portuguese Kings), Estoril and Chascais. Students will have lunch in the last town, and then continue on to Granada.

GymGarbo gym is located next to our school and has excellent facilities for fitness training, including a weight room, aerobics classes, step classes, toning classes and a variety of martial arts classes.
